Arch Coal Inc. (ACI)

Arch Coal is burning its investors today, down 6.54% at $4.57. The steam and metallurgical coal company saw its shares fall after a poor first quarter earnings report. Arch Coal announced a loss of $70 million, or $0.33 per share. For the same quarter last year the company had a gain of $1.2 million or $0.01 per share. Revenue took a big hit falling from $1.04 billion to $825.5 million. Management stated the poor earnings were a result of lower prices and production. The average sales price per ton fell to $21.66 from $25.73. Arch Coal was just able to hold up above its 52-week low of $4.47.

Netflix Inc. (NFLX)

Netflix is entertaining to watch today, with shares up 24.44% at $216.99. The online video streaming company saw its shares jump over $42.00 per share today after beating earnings estimates. For the quarter Netflix announced that total revenue increased 17.7% to $1.02 billion or $0.31 per share. The EPS of $0.31 crushed analyst estimates of $0.18 per share. The company stated that it's paid streaming subscriber base increased 40.2% on a year-over-year basis to 34.2 million. Total streaming subscriber base increased 37.2% to 36.3 million. Netflix set a new 52-week high of $219.38 intraday.
